Copying of any coin should be a crime, current legal tender or not!
I consider this activity as a form of forgery and counterfeiting, allowing this also has potential for copying current currency, the $2AUD for example which has happened before

Hi MobOfRoos,
I am not sure that the listing you linked to acutally costitutes "is an acceptable listing".
It may be just a "listing which does not comply but has not been discovered and/or removed yet"
Part of the reason I suspect "copys" are not allowd is because a friend of mine is into guitars, and is unable to list an "XXX copy" as it is not a genuine "XXX".
I will have to read up on the rules and report back.
Regards,
Ozcoins.
Edit.
PS. The listing you gave by "wotafind" has 0 feedback. This may be an indication of a fraudulent listing.

Floridapalms,
I read something recently that said that the only coin ever used in Australia which is no longer legal tender was the "holey dollar".
That would mean that the 1930 penny is still legal tender, and I would expect that copying it would be breaking some type of law.
I would also expect that selling such a copy would be breaking some law as well.
It sounds like you are upset about these fake coins. Are you concerned enough to make a complaint?
I (and I am sure others on the forum) would be interested to hear how such a complaint is handled.
Regards,
Ozcoins.

Now we've had a bit of a stab at the sellers lack of finesse in the listing process...

I think the seller is ultimately quite fair and reasonably and don't think they would hold the buyer to the final price. I've had an issue with this seller where I purchased a set of 5c and 10c proofs all dates from 1966. When they turned up in mail they were uncirculated, and seller was quite accommodating in finding a solution.

The point of the story being, the seller makes a lot of errors in his listings, but is happy to fix complaints after the sale.

So in summary: seller probably needs lessons in listing, but in my experience is genuinely helpful and easy to get a long with.

On a website I saw 3 original 1930 pennies, in fine grade they are asking for $20,000, in Fine/Very fine $25,000 and in Almost very fine/ very fine $32,500. What do you guys think on these prices?

Well in McDonalds book it says that Vf for a 1930 pemmy is worth $60k +. The coin graded aVf - Vf is $ 32,500. McDonald guide seems over priced on that one.

I doubt any predecimal coin is realistically legal tender, demonetised is the term and thats why pendants and watches etc are allowed to be defaced and sold as jewellery.
Counterfeits and copies are the enemy for genuine collectors

McDonalds or Rennicks books explain the listed prices as only a guide so don't get too excited aarong, read the introductory note regarding pricing in the guides and you will understand why theres a difference between any seller wanted price

Floridapalms, I have read the introductory note and I said that McDonalds guide was "over priced" Not getting excited at all. Although a 1930 would be amazing for the newbie collection :)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/25090488342....m1438.l2649

The photos of the coin arn't great which would make it difficult to confirm if it is genuine.

There is no way I would buy a 1930 penny on ebay

I agree with floridae, as convincing as the sellers can be, play it safe and don't bid, just my opinion.
