Some of these coins Say Great Britain on the front but Australia on the back? Forgive my ignorance, but can someone enlighten me? Thank you  |

Well, Australia was once part of Great Britain, but what I think you have here is a mixture of coins (some from Australia and some from Great Britain).

I see that some of them also say Emporer of India on the front. :-D India was once part of Great Britian, too.

Interesting. Thank you. I did a little research and the (3) sixpence and (1) shilling is silver. I love finding silver in my collection. =)

The monarch of England is also the Monarch of Australia, Canada and many other countries. Around the portrait they put the title of the Monarch, which up until 1953 said emperor of India and a few other things. So no matter which country the coin belonged to the portrait had the title.
The front says the country. If it says no country then logically it is the UK, because the UK was the power and everyone knew who they were. Doesn't really explain why the country is not written on it no though, hmm. Do we still think we are the world superpower. Well, we have just become the number one cricketing nation on earth (there are at least 10 countries who play cricket out of 193 countries in the world)

sorry J.Bonzo, but Australia was never "part of" Great Britain.
Augsburger is almost correct: the Queen of Australia has other dominions - we are generous enough to share her.
A point of clarification:
the U.K. = United Kingdom, or, in full, the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland.
Great Britain = the sum of England, Wales, and Scotland.
Some people, mostly Welsh & Scots, see Wales & Scotland as being separate countries, but have great difficulty in justifying that view on any basis other than history.
