LTMets44,
It was an 1858 Flying Eagle cent and someone cut or altered the 8 to resemble a 6....more than likely.
I think the coin dealer thing was made up.

Well, I never heard back from him. Hopefully, one of his own accounts bought the coin.

Anyone who would bid on a coin that does not have an enlarged clear picture deserves whatever he gets and should not expect to be getting his/her money's worth. I have no sympathy for bidders like these. The eight bids are as had been previously mentioned probably a combination of shill bidders and unsuspecting novices thinking this guy will deliver what he says he has for sale here.

Negative #4 should be coming soon, unless it is an altered 1858 but the winner doesn't realize it, and ends up giving a positive

Gyrene, the private bidder IDs immediately raised my concerns about shills too.
But, shills are a technicality if you've thrown critical thinking to the wind.
I only hope the bidder takes the seller "at his word" and shows this to a coin dealer.

Wow, this is unbelievable! Not only is it not identifiable as a 1856, you can't even tell its a FEC.

So I'm guessing the Flying Eagle sale didn't work out so well. His ebay account is no longer registered.

That does not bode well for getting a refund?

His feedback is still viewable so ebay didn't boot him from their web site, it wouldn't viewable be if they did. He just closed this particular account and he may be back soon under a different userid if he doesn't already have one.

I had two at one time, one strictly for buying and one just for selling so I could keep the two types of transactions more organized and easier to keep track of. I closed one when my ebay activity dropped to a fraction of what it used to be.
