Possible 23 S Standing Liberty Quarter / SLQ ?

adamsp79 New Member United States 16 Posts	Posted 08/17/2011 1:49 pm I was taking a hard look at my worn off date SLQs and I think I'm seeing a faint, faint, faint 3 with a S mint mark. I know the ways to distinguish a Type1 from a Type2 but are there any differing characteristics on a 23 S? My eyes could be playing tricks on me and I'm seeing what I want to see, but by stacking it on top of a 23P and comparing the two it looks to be a 23S. I know people have sent off dateless 1916's to be certified but has anyone ever thought they had a rarer date and sent them off? Would it be worth sending off to be certified? Posting a pic would not help because you have to tilt it in the light to see it,,,,like I said it's faint. Report this Post to the Staff

The early dates wear off easily, so if you should check to make sure the overall detail is G-VG. If it's more like FR/AG, any date remnants would probably be from a post 25 coin. I don't think there are any specific diagnostics used to identify these if the date is not identifiable. Report this Post to the Staff
