I have some of these on reserve, but am wondering whether to cancel.

Are these UNC gold coins any different? Or, are they the same the mint runs out through distributors, but in a box?

Since the normal UNCs are available for less from dealers at spot-plus $, what is the special thing here? There is no special slab going on, is there?

Yes, they are different. No, they are not the same. The special thing going on here is the W mint mark.

2006 marks the inaugural year of the American Eagle Gold Uncirculated Coin Program. Struck on specially burnished blanks, these coins offer precious metal purchasers a new collectible version of the popular American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins and feature a finish similar to their bullion coin counterparts The coins are available in four sizes - one ounce, one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce, as well as a four-coin set which contains one coin in each denomination. Each coin bears the "W" mint mark reflecting their striking at the United States Mint at West Point.
