Thank you both. I sure don't need anymore junk. I didn't think it would be worth much since I couldn't find it anywhere. I'm so glad there are places like this to check things out!

the Franklin Mint has passed their junk on unsuspecting people for years claiming how much of a good investment it would be, only to be worth nothing. I would rather see people pay outrageous prices on coin vault because atleast they are getting real coins that may increase in value and maybe their grandchildren's grandchildren will be able to sell them for more than they paid. I wish everyone would do research as you have done before they buy this stuff, that way maybe we could put these shysters out of business

Quite frankly it will never happen! We as collectors will collect just about anything and everything. So if they happen to have something that someone likes and thinks they would like to collect, it will sell and they will stay in business. Sorry, but that is how this old world works.

I agree with OldDan! If demand exist, supply will exist and nothing will stop that. That's why the United States will never win the so called "war on drugs." More like the 100 year war. If people want to poison themselves with drugs other people will show up and sell them the poison. Kodji there is only one way to collect and that is to collect what you like. What is said about the Franklin Mint today, IMO, is going to be said about the U.S Mint tomorrow. And yet people beat a path to their doors? If Franklin Mint issues are junk who's fault is that? Collectors didn't just buy their medals they decided what medal designs and themes would be sold to them.

I believe it's the National Mint that does the drive by silver plating? The Franklin Mint doesn't produce medals anymore. At least not at the moment. But there's talk of the new owners going back into production.

Thanks long and Bryan, You both have made good points. I would have never thought that the Franklin Mint would do that. But money is money! Long, I think I have decided to collect seated and bust coins. I like the bust for the design and I like the seated for the story and design. ( I don't like the seated for the fake/forgeriey people out there). It is hard to decide what you truely like. How about both of you what have you decided to make your main collecting focus?

Bust and Seateds are both excellent series with dedicated collectors. My collecting focus? Tokens mostly, especially military tokens. I also like Art Bars from the 70's but I don't buy too many of them anymore. Too many stupid prices being paid for common issues. My comments about the U.S Mint's issues were intended for their current issues that seem to come out every week. There is also Pre-1954 Commemoritives, that IMO, are very under appreciated today and I don't know why. In past cycles they were running like greyhounds. I think it's a good series because it's a series but each design is different. It's kind of a hybrid (series collecting/Type collecting) which only makes it harder to understand why they get so little attention today. Seems like people like anything today that can be called a hybrid. Even our politicians are hybrids of each other.

When I first started collecting I collected Morgans and Morgand only, then I moved from just Morgans to Morgan Varieties (VAM's) and then switched to 1878 Morgan VAM's only and now I have started a Dansco 7070 US Type Set and have been working on that and have put just about everything else on the back burner until it is finished. My advice is to collect what ever appeals to you, if it makes you happy when you look at it chances are you will enjoy the hobby alot more than if you just collected the highest value coin you could afford no matter what series it was

Well Long you are into an interesting hobby. One I know nothing about....tokens. And what are Art Bars? Bryan, the main reason I never thought about collecting Morgans is there are so many people doing that. It is a pretty coin though and it has ALOT of variations to grading which would make it challenging. I hope you get your type set done. You should post pictures when it's finished.

They're one ounce silver bars that were popular in the early 70's. A few were actually historical but most were mirroring the times such as the one below. There wasn't much of anything, big or trivial that happened in the 70's that didn't make it on an Art bar. http://www.coincommunity.org/galler...um=226&pos=9

I think they are unique. The tell a story about the era. At the same time you get to invest. I teach and I can just imagine what they would do with the students when history was being taught. You even have one that shows the gas crisis. Cool!

I have already posted some pictures on the forum and I also have some in the photo gallery nof what I had done at that certain time (it's missing a few coins but most are there)
