Wow ... Thanks muddler. Truly appreciate your efforts to help me with the set!

That is indeed a great San Diego downgrade for my set. Seriously considering a bid ... but if won will leave me with four San Diego halves ... 2 MS66 and 2 circulated. Suppose that would qualify me as an addict.

BTW ... I did win that F12 (my grade) Maine you shared ... cost me $51 with shipping. Looking forward to seeing it in hand.

Please note that this is one of my last posts prior to a Friday 11/04 departure to a European vacation ... back to the world of Internet and CCF on Nov 14th.

Best

David

What an outstanding collection! I've always wanted to do one like this, but have been too afraid of the cost to even start researching.

You've done great.

I am glad this post keeps getting bumped back to the top because I really enjoy looking at this set. The circulated condition, coupled with the fact these are classic commemoratives, represents history very well.

Yep. This is a fascinating collection. Makes me want to start one.

Wow ... difficult to believe that over 2 months have passed since I first posted my status on this quest ... and I am amazed and grateful for the generous and kind replies that many of you have offered in response to my efforts to collect these lovely pieces of USA coinage history.

Your kind words continue to feed my collecting spirit ... many thanks for them.

Soooo ... this post is an Update on my circulated classic USA silver commemorative set ...

Since my original 9/16/2011 post I have managed to fill three (3) holes with honestly circulated original surfaces coins ... and have 'downgraded' four (4) coins in my set.

I'm now down to 16 holes to fill ... having now acquired 34 of the 50 coins needed for a complete 50-coin type set.

Hoping you enjoy the following photos ...

Top of Page 1:

Picked up the lovely 'circulated cameo' Lafayette dollar in a PCGS G06 holder. Gotta love that look.

Downgraded both my Lincoln (Illinois) and Maine to F12 coins (my grade). Thanks to muddler for the link to the Maine ... I did lose out on a tremendous FR2 Lincoln by being sniped on E-Pray.

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

Bottom of Page 1:

Picked up a wonderful AG3/G4 Huguenot ... the coin is bright in hand but IMHO exhibits original surfaces after many years as a pocket piece.

Also replaced the Missouri ... believe the prior coin suffered from an old cleaning ... my new example is perhaps XF40 ... but with honest original surfaces.

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

Top of Page 2:

Nothing new here in the previous few months ... some holes in the set starting to show. Many Thanks again to ianmprice for his kind lead on the Fort Vancouver ... I would not have it today without your help amigo.

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

Bottom of Page 2:

Same ... nothing new here and the same holes in the set. Still truly enjoying the 'circulated cameo' look of that Long Island half dollar ... wonderful piece of history indeed.

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

Top of Page 3:

New addition is the XF45 (my grade) Albany ... honest surfaces and a very difficult coin to find in circulated grade. Many holes now!

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

Bottom of Page 3:

Two new additions here ... XF40 Roanoke Island and XF45 Iowa ... thrilled to have them both in the set with honest surfaces and circulated wear.

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

Soooo ... that is the set as of now.

What a great and fun collection to chase ... these classic USA silver commemorative are each and every one pieces of USA history ... filled with art and stories.

I truly enjoy holding them in my hands and imagine the stories they could tell.

Thanks again for looking ... and indeed Many personal Thanks for your continued support to help me find the 16 remaining coins needed to complete the set.

Enjoy

David

I laid eyes on a very pretty, well circulated Iowa yesterday.
It was probably VG and had a gorgeous circ-cameo.

Nevermind, I see you picked one up.

Placed a 'best offer' bid on that Delaware ... seller wants Greysheet MS64 price for a VF coin ... thanks again muddler for the link. You have a PM.

ratio411 ... you have PM as well. Interested in that Iowa you described! Would very much appreciate a reply to my PM.

BTW ratio411 ... I am enjoying your avatar photo ... struck as the 1999 $5 gold commemorating the death of George Washington ... but designed in 1931 by Laura Gardin Fraser as the winner of the competition for the upcoming 1932 quarter commemorative ... rejected by then US Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon ... finally rescued and minted. Great coin image indeed.

Back to the topic ... Truly ... my ultimate goal here is not just to fill the holes ... but to acquire clean, honest surfaces examples of all 50 of these is say VF and lower grade ... lower grade is even better ... so I am always looking for 'downgrades' to many of the coins I already have.

What a strange world this is ... looking for the 'worst' of tough coins to find.

I value and appreciate all your 'eyes' out there for me.

Nice collection. Are you buying circulated coins when you stubble upon them or are you actively looking? Also, are you picking any of these up in bullion boxes? I'm just curious. I'm sure that Spanish Trail is going to be a challenge.

This may be the coolest thread here. I love the concept of this type of collection. Just great.
