The coin doesn't look cleaned to me. Inconsistencies in the color profile look more like a coarse woodie type effect, where the stock alloy was somewhat heterogeneous resulting in the color variation. This is supported by the fact this diagonal patterning is going in opposite directions on the obverse and reverse.

14-S is a tough date as you get into the higher grades. Nice acquisition, you'll get there soon enough!

Nice coin ,however I don't think the obverse warrants a 45 grade . Reverse has it clinched , Net 35 . I'm not a fan of TPG .

Don't pay attention to those that have only negative opinions. You have a great looking coin there and it's now yours. What brand Album are you using? Is there places for the 22 plain? Is there slots for the 55 and 72 doubled dies? Does it go all the way up to present? What grade 09S VDB are you looking for? One of the things I like about a Whitman Classic Album. Enough room in the Folder for enough pages for all Pennies from 09 to present.

Very nice! Nice pick up for the price. Finally, we're on the same page as I have cracked out several Seated Liberty dimes. Instead of a Dansco I put them in Air-tite holders and into two by two album pages. They just look better that way.

Thanks everyone and thank you just carl. I'm using the Dansco 8100 which covers all of the LMCs and LWCs. Including proof only issues. Dansco makes a separate album, 8104 for just the LSCs and proofs. The 8100 only has the space for the 1922 plain. No holes for either the 55 or 72 doubled dies. As far as the 1909-S VDB grade I'd be happy around AU-55 or so if the price is right. I've decided that I'm not going to get that particular coin online. I'm going to go to one of the many Chicago area coin shows for it. I recall that you frequent a few of them. I think you get there early for free coffee and donuts.

Nice, them XF-AU Wheaties are hard to not love especially the 1914 S. When I filled my 1909-41 book it felt like a new pair of sneakers " soft and sweet". Good luck on the 09 S vdb and 14 D lots of choices to behold. Chafes I cracked out a 14 D, and 22 plain to plug them holes glad someone else has also. Didn't faze me a bit, I use a towel and bowieknife one moderate swoop and the deed is done. Surprisingly the slabs I whacked were: PCGS "like butter" NGC "wood" and ANACS old small holders "concrete". I feel like I just confessed to a felony :)

The ones you breakout, do you take pictures of them in their slabs first?

Quote: The ones you breakout, do you take pictures of them in their slabs first? Have to admit that the thought never crossed my mind. Bad call on my part? Between my 8100 and 7070 I've freed probably a dozen by now. TPG holders and numbers long gone. I do mark next to the date in my albums with a small dot sticker if it was broken out of a holder. My kids know that. If they ever wanted to resubmit them someday after I'm gone more power to them. Quote: I use a towel and bowieknife one moderate swoop and the deed is done. I use my Leatherman. I use the pliers to crack up the head of the holder then the knife blade I slip between the halves and twist. They snap apart. Quote: I feel like I just confessed to a felony :) Me too...

Yep, been talking pictures of the slabs, attaching the barcodes and keeping them in the back of the Dansco's, in a clear plastic sleeve. Not so much for resubmitting but so the kids have some type of reference point after I'm long gone and they eventually end-up in your collections. .
