I apologize up front for not having pictures.

A friend of mine (who got me interested in coins) was in the habit of sorting pennies for high grade coins and copper. I convinced him to start looking for die varieties.
He's new to this but I'm sure he can identify a Close AM from a Wide AM. He has found 5 2000 WAMs. He has also found a 92D CAM. I haven't seen it so I have no pictures. He says it's EF but with a gouge in it.
Assuming his identification and grading is accurate (a good assumption in my opinion), what is it worth? I know this is a BS question. Grade, eye appeal, how bad the gouge is, etc, all matter. I'm just asking for a ballpark. $20, $200, more?
I'm asking because my books don't agree at all. The Cherry Picker's guide says $25 in AU, Strike it Rich with Pocket Change says $2900 in AU.

Any opinions (with very little info) would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Phil

Look for prices at $1500.00 to $1800.00 in low MS quality.

The Cherry Picker Guide price of $25 for a 92CAM seems way way low.

Really too many variables to ascertain value. We need pictures, especially of the gouge.

He says he tried and none of the pics are worth posting. I'll take some pics next time I see him. It might not be until Christmas though.
