Im looking for a capped bust for my type set and stumbled on this one. I generally dont like buying raw coins on ebay, but if its real the price is right for me. What do you guys think real or fake?   |

It appears authentic to me. It's easily diagnosed as an O-111 (R1). I have never seen the "nose nail" though.  I do find it a bit distracting... All the rest, position of the stars, the I (in PLURIBUS) under the left side of the T, and the slant of the 50 C. appear correctly. |

The nose nail did throw me off, at first glance I thought it was just a mark on the coin but the more I look at it the more it does look like it was part of the dye.
I wonder if PCGS would put "Nose Nail Variety" on the slab lol

I would ask for a guarantee the coin will come back genuine when you slab it ($10 anacs special maybe?).
Looks right. But, I am less than a beginner, at judging Bust coinage.

it looks like it is just a gash on the coin that has worn down and "folded over" to look like it was part of the die as it looks raised. The more I look at it, it doesn't evben look to be folded over as I think I can still see the gash beside where it looks raised. I believe it is genuine but it would never come back in a problem free slab. So if the problem doesn't bother you then I* don't see a problem with it. The problem would be way to distracting to me though

Bryan, I want it for a type set so I dont really have any intention of getting it slabbed unless they will call it a "nose nail" because I just cant pass that up. It would bother me a bit if it was a gash, not so much if somehow it was from the dye. There is a return policy so I could always take a look at it then decide. Right now this is one of 3 I'm looking at. If my other offer is accepted I will pass, but if I lose out on the other two I think I will get this one. My type set is no where near the level of yours, with the exception of the moderns I'm doing a lower grade circulated which I like the look of a lot and have no plans of upgrading. To many other series in progress to divert all my funds to the type set and I like my expensive coins to be slabbed personally.
