Is this commonly found on 48 halves?

The die chip in the 4 of the 1948 50c is not that common, but they can be found... Zoell catalogued it as P450p in his Third Minor Varieties catalogue.

This coin looks more like a 'low 4' which would make it a narrow date per Charlton's.

Unfortunately I have 5 high end ( once high end )halves in this shape. Coins came with a story that they were in a fire. Cleaning off soot and ash I guess. Story doesn't make much sense, who displays halves face up.

Ouch, that hurts, such a beaut reverse, here's hoping for toning to help camouflage that obverse.
