The microscope claims to be a 500x.

Here is a dime from my pocket.

Maximum close up:

Fully extended:

And that's about it. Not much of a range, especially with larger coins. But I do appreciate the close up capabilities of this microscope. It suits my needs for now.

Garoyn said:"Good point. The one I got is a touch more money ($45), but goes down to 1X. Not crazy about the stand, though.

I checked out the link and Plugable said they were discontinuing the model for their new redesigned $35 model. So I ordered one from Amazon. It should be easier than my "old" way: 35mm camera, macro lens, light stand, develop film, convert to digital. I know, I know that is the 'old' way. Will post some pictures once all setup. Stay tuned.

That's the same stand as my Celestron and it's just barely ok,but I am not much happier with my AmScope stand either.

UPDATE: the Plugable $35 scope arrived; took about 25-30 to do all the setup. Works Great for me and my needs! Still Learning but the photos I've taken so far are wonderful. And while examining my 1859 CLCs I discovered I had something I didn't know I had; so will do some good shots and post. For what I wanted to do this little thing works okay; little issue with the light but am working on that.
