Help With Identifying Ancient Coins

Would be grateful for assistance in identification if possible as I want to put them on ebay to help fund the next buy :) (if they are worth anything) 1) Weight: 23g Diameter: 30mm (this one has a note with it that says: Lucilla) 2) Weight: 20g Diameter: 29mm 3) Weight: 24g Diameter: 31mm Thanks * Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. * Report this Post to the Staff

DavidUK Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 2624 Posts	Posted 08/25/2015 5:23 pm Well I am not much good for Roman coins but amazed nobody has helped. The first is Lucilla AE Sestertius. AD 164-170 . LVCILLAE draped bust right / VENVS S-C, Venus standing left, holding sceptre and raising right hand. The second is another Sestertius of some kind (if you see SC on the reverse then its a sestertius) again The third looks like Faustina possibly with seated Concordia reverse... Ben Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 4208 Posts	Posted 08/25/2015 5:59 pm Yep, first is Lucilla. Second is Julia Mammaea (both Lucilla and Mammaea are quite uncommon). The reverse is FELICITAS PVBLICA and shows Felicitas leaning on a column. Last is Faustina I and the legend is SALVTI AVGVSTAE. It shows Salus feeding a snake. It literally means 'safety of the empress' but can more accurately be thought of as a blessing of good health to the Augusta. I cant work out exactly why this one was issued, but usually a SALVTI legend indicates sickness or injury afflicting someone - indeed, Decius issued a coin devoted to Apollo Salutari when the plague hit Rome.
