well, i'd had heard many things about helena, mother of constantine the great. I knew she was a saint. I knew according to legend she found the true cross. I did not know, she was a crazy cat lady. this article is worth reading... http://www.odditycentral.com/pics/t...he-cats.htmlif you don't want to read it...she commanded a 1,000 cat invasion of cyprus. yes...I'm serious. is it a true story? I don't know, but it isn't...it should be. anyway, here is my new coin of helena. Helena, Mother of Constantine I. AE Follis, 325-330 AD O: FL HELENA AVGVSTA, Pearl-diademed and mantled bust right, wearing necklace. R:SECVRITAS REIPVBLICE, Securitas standing left, holding branch pointing down; #8729;Gamma;SIS in ex., Siscia mint, RIC 204. 20 mm, 2.6g my collection of roman ladies is pretty weak, and a bronze of this lady has been pretty high on my list. this one was hard to get a pic of, gave up and used the sellers. edited, but can't get the color quite right. it's has nice smooth dark green surfaces (except the patch on the reverse). ski, do you have you're "true cross coin" still? would you post it and tell the story of it if you get a chance?

Great story and great coin too. As a cat fan, it's a great bit of trivia to know.

Hey Chris, it works! Since we got our two cats we haven't had any snakes in the house, either. True story. My Helena.

HISTORY: She used torture against the more prominent Jews of Jerusalem till they "confessed" were they have hidden the "true cross"... She was a true saint... (of course I´m sarcastic and ironic). Another "Saint" (But only for the Orthodoxs...) is his son Constantine; he only killed his own son (Crispus) after torture because he thought that he tried to rape his wife and boiled this same wife to death when he realized that this was not true... (As we say here in Spain: "All a little angel") NUMISMATIC: You have got a very pretty coin of Helena, greetings!

You don't have to be crazy to love cats... in fact I find cats are often preferable to people.
Interesting history and interesting coins.

Nice coin Chrsmat A very interesting story also, I wasn't aware of this. We don't need cats in the UK due to the lack of snakes, I personally take offence to something invading my garden and crapping all over my shrubbery Maybe I should dress up as a cat and go around and defecate in cat owners gardens, now theres a thought

The Helena SECURITAS series has some distinctively beautiful coins. You have a nice one. Is this a bit closer to the color detail you wanted to show?

My two seem more interested in hunting each other than snakes.

Apparently I'm in charge of spiders... our Alpha Cat will waddle alongside of the spider yelling for me to deal with it.

thanks everyone, and cute kitties! my youngest girl is allergic, so no cats for us. we do have a dog named max, but he isn't much of a hunter.
he is an excellent sleeper.
LRGB, so of. the green is closer probably, but as the contrast kicks up it makes the yellow come out..which isn't on my coin.

I have two dogs too... Yesterday I had the great idea of freeing them to allow them to run... "Pitufo" was very quick in finding something really soft and stinky to rub himself (I´m not going to send images of him before the bath).
