Hi everyone,
I'm presently using a 5x magnifier. I'de like something more powerful that I can use to inspect my coins. I'm not sure what to get and at what power of magnification.
I want something I can use by hand and use it under a small desk lamp. Should I use a loupe? I kind of prefer something small and compact but that I don't have to bring right up to my eye.
Suggestions and prices?
Thanks,
Laura

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

I have one of these 8X loupes that works quite well for coins, although it's meant for viewing film:

What-Kind-Of-Loupe-???
It retails around $30.

Generally, I'd suggest a 8-10X loupe, and one that incorporates two lenses because I've found it's less strain on the eyes.

You'll like your loupe. You'll get a new appriciation for coins since you'll be able to see them much better.

Those loupes look like the thing for me!! I have arthritis and its pretty bad in my hands so very hard (and painful) to use the magnifying glasses I have. They're old fashioned, round with a long handle. Actually hard to hold anything and even impossible some days, so something that sits stationary, as long as I can position a coin, would work. Am glad I spotted this thread :D Thanks folks!
