1909-S Barber Half Inverted Mint Mark

InfiniteInterest Pillar of the Community United States 673 Posts	Posted 03/21/2008 10:34 pm This week at the coin shop I was sorting through the Barber coinage. Started with about 1500 Barber halves, not alot of interesting stuff there, but you get familiar with the coins ! Way to many cleaned coins , seem to be as bad as the Bust halves for finding nice original coins. This sorting mostly involves sorting the melt coins from the coins that can be sold. Anyway... I did find a couple things of interest, this particular coin is listed in the Cherry Pickers as an inverted S mint mark. The last picture is from the C.P. book, I think it matches this Mint Mark perfectly. NGiles Pillar of the Community United States 527 Posts	Posted 03/22/2008 12:38 am It looks like your coin has some damage on the mint mark. It's hard to tell because of the distortion. The tail feathers also don't appear to be the same shape as the ones in the C.P. photo. Report this Post to the Staff

InfiniteInterest Pillar of the Community United States 673 Posts	Posted 03/22/2008 4:06 pm I know it is hard to tell from the pics, and this is a very worn coin - but after seeing 30-40 of the 09-S's, there were two of these coins out of the batch. Both of them pretty much the same, the tail feather detail in the pic from the CPG is gone on these coins, and the mint mark is a little more worn. I was just glad to find SOMEthing out of the ordinary ! That little book sure makes looking alot more fun ! Thanks for the opinions ... More to come....... Report this Post to the Staff
