Hello again everyone. I'm curious about the lines on the obverse. To me it looks like the impression of a building. Why does Abe have so much Hair? Also is that a G on the rim between Liberty and the word In. I have enclosed front and back images. Thank you for any help you can offer me. Have a Blessed day everyone.
It has been in a vise or vise-grip type tool. That accounts for the semi-perforated patterns on the rims and surfaces. The white spots are likely oxidised zinc areas where the copper plate has been scraped away.
Such post mint damage is not uncommon; I did similar things when I was a kid in my dad's shop. That little "G" monogram is interesting, though. It could be random marks that look like a letter or it could have been hand etched by a young man named Greg. I'd put it in my FIDO box just because it's different.
Of course this is my own guess and FIDO = Freaks, Irregulars, Defects and Oddities.
