1951-D Lincoln Wheat Penny; Obverse Mint Mark Misplacement

Dave42 Pillar of the Community United States 571 Posts	Posted 03/18/2018 12:10 pm Until 1990, mintmarks were punched into the individual dies by hand, so there will be some variation in the exact location of the mintmark. Basically, as long as it was under the date, it was the correct place for the mintmark on a cent. Your coin shows it a bit higher than usual, but still in the correct area. I think the only time these are worth anything extra is if it is actually touching the date. Report this Post to the Staff
