Not sure who made this one, but here is another fake I just got. Not a very good one if you know what these are supposed to look like, but could easily fool someone without much collecting experience. 1911-S Lincoln Wheat cent - fake

Agree this is a one-look fake to an experienced cent collector. How did you come to acquire it?

One of the coin dealers I work with gets stuff in and tosses them in a box. I buy the lot every month or so and this one was in there. Decent 1896 "glued on S" Morgan as well as a 1932-D quarter with added mint mark as well. They can't/won't sell them and know that I just collect them and don't do nefarious things with them so I buy them for a reasonable price. Some nice additions lately as I found the 1914-D altered date a short while ago as well.
Now I've got a 1937 Roanoke half dollar that is supposedly no good but can't figure out what the deal is. Eventually I'll post that in another forum but since I don't check those boards I need to be around or I forget about it, and have been traveling and too busy to really deal with it. I've got a 7-hour round trip drive tomorrow again so no end to it yet.

Interesting, good luck on your road trip. Don't forget you gotta stop by at some point to pick up the rolls, it's not urgent, but I'm sure they want them back lol.

So why will someone go through all the trouble to alter a coin, if its value is only about $3.00 bucks considering wear and tear?

Quote: So why will someone go through all the trouble to alter a coin, if its value is only about $3.00 bucks considering wear and tear? An 11-S in that condition is a $60-$80 coin . 14-D's $200-$600 . Not exactly $3 .
