Today I present interesting coin.

1/2 anna 1862 Calcutta mint Flat 1.

In NGC registry are two variations of 1/2 annas flat 1 (Reverse II)
1) 1/2 anna 1862 Rev II, Bust B (4 panels in Victoria drees)
2) proof 1/2 anna 1862 Rev II Bust C (4.5-4.75 panels)

Last time I found one, but I dont understand it is not proof ;) (Good/Fine grade I think), maybe it has Bust A with 4,25-4,5 panels and this variety is not discribe by NGC?

What do You think?

Greetings!

Robert

Hi Robert,......That's a very intersting coin!!

First you obviously have an interest in the BI series...Here's a link to a thread I ran a while back that you might find interesting in the future and hopefully helpful?..http://goccf.com/t/330350&whichpage=5 .....

The OP coin seems to be...Bust type A (4 1/2 jabots) / Reverse type II (wide legend, flat top 1) and as you've rightly stated this combination as far as I know is not referenced as a circulated coin!?....

Give me some time and I'll see what I can dig up...Nice conundrum....Thanks for sharing...Paul

Thank You Paul!

Yes I think it will be helpfully, especially thank you for for sharing variations of design Victoria dress - Good work!

I am collecting copper fractiins of BI several years and I like all the time to find new variations :)

I search several numismatic auction sites and find 1 more such coin - and it have design of dress from A bust, from some traces from design line on my coin I can supposed that it also design A not C.

Now I am looking at NGC site and I think they have mistake.
I am never even hear about 1/2 anna 1862 (C) flat 1/Bust C - this is exist? - but NGC say it has mintage 7.399 mln.
And 1/2 anna flat 1/ Bust B they attributed only to proof - and I saw about dozen this coins not proof (mine is in poor state unfortunatelly ;))
