I finally bought one of these counterstamped semi-official coins a couple of months ago. I've noticed that mine, and all the others I can see pics of in Krause and on the Internet, appear to have the counterstamped lettering deliberately blackened. Does anyone know whether this is in fact the case?

Just like a normal Mexico 5 pesos of 1948, only slightly flatter in places.

Every one of these that I have seen has black letters so I would assume they were blackened on purpose. It can't be natural toning or tarnish. It seems way to uniform.

Leave it to the Brits to boost a bunch of Mexican pesos to come up with some territorial currency in a pinch!

I think I see pigment trapped in the recesses of the portrait.
