Possible Die Error On This One Pence Coin?

Erisoluse New Member United Kingdom 1 Posts	Posted 11/15/2021 5:16 pm Can enyone tell me how rare this 2004 one pence is? I think it has a die error as their is metal protruding from the image on the front, I'm just wonering how rae it is as I haven seen this before. Report this Post to the Staff

mick1271 New Member United Kingdom 4 Posts	Posted 11/15/2021 5:32 pm They are not particularly scarce . I have a few 20p and 2p's with excess metal blobs .Some are worse than this one , and some a bit less .More poor quality control , than an error. Report this Post to the Staff

However, I also wonder if it could be bubbling caused by corrosion of the steel under the copper plating. 1p and 2p coins minted since 1992 have just a thin layer of copper over a steel core. I've seen coins where the copper layer has been damaged and they look similar to yours. It could possibly be due to a defective planchet. mick1271 New Member United Kingdom 4 Posts	Posted 11/16/2021 07:37 am I will try and dig out the ones I have and stick up some pics . definitely not PMD ,and more common on the 20p , which rules out Paddys brazing possibility as the blobs are cupro nickel .Still cant work out the cause though , air bubbles in the flan is a possibility .
