1903 Indian Head Penny. Need Information Please!

Hi..I have a question on my 1903 Indian head. I'm trying to determine if I should send it off to be graded because I don't want to waste money I don't have, of I don't have to! I asked a local coin collector and sent him pictures online. He offered to give me Three Cents and told me these are very common coins. ( I know a lot were made but they aren't they common!) I think he was trying to do me off. It's a bring color but in the neck, there's an iridescent like sheen. It's very defined when you look at the lettering and edges. I can read the word liberty in the head dress, but it has gained a bit. Any help and advice is greatly appreciated!! Kae. P.S.
