Hello everyone,

I am very new at getting into collecting coins and currency. But I thought I would share the way I have been going about starting. I have 2 different bank accounts at 2 local credit unions. These are very nice because they both use the co-op system meaning there are shared branches around the country. How I have been doing it is I will go to the branches of one of my banks and get coin rolls, whatever they have on hand, then head to a shared branch to see if they have more. Unfortunately one of them has a limit you can only order up to 250 dollars in coins before you are charged. Does anyone else do it this way with CU's and shared co-op branches? Also found my first silver quarter yesterday and that got me pretty pumped up!!

Any circulated silver quarter is a good one.

I search across three major banks (and their associated branches). One branch I use as my dump bank--never obtaining rolls from them, just turning them in. The bottom line is--don't dump coins at the same branch/office where you get them. I have accounts at the three major banks--a mix of checking/savings here, credit card there, mortgage, car loan--so access to coins isn't a problem. I keep my roll requests modest. I'm not an industrial grade searcher who obtains several boxes weekly. That way, I keep tellers and managers happy. I happen to drive by multiple branches weekly so I just pop in and get a handful of rolls at a time. Building cordial relationships with branch staff is vital.

Yea IJN I was beginning to think I wouldn't ever find silver!! Do you think it's valuable to have an account at a larger institution? Or can local credit unions be just as good? The only reason I haven't ever gotten an account at one of those is the minimum balance requirements and fee schedules. I just always thought well I have a free bank account so why get one that isn't?

And yea the branch I go in to get coins and stuff I told them what I was doing and they were very happy when I said I wasn't dropping it off back with them hahah!
