Hi there! I'm new on here and I have a question for you all who might know more than me.

I'm half Italian and half American, and 10 years ago in Italy I changed some Euros for US dollars and specifically requested only 2 Dollar bills, mostly because I knew they were rare and wanted to have some when I got back to the US.

Anyway, taking a closer look at them I immediately noticed something weird, 2 bills had a strange error. It was the 1976 series design and signatures, front and back matched that series and not the older 50's series. But, the error was it said series 1935.

I immediately wondered how that could even be possible since it was the 1976 design and even the signatures matched the bills that were printed under that series.

My first thought was that both bills might have been fake but I took them back to the bank and asked them to check if they were real or not comparing them to a 1976 and 1995 series bill and they found no difference telling me that all bills were authentic.

For some reason I thought they might be worth keeping so I never used them. In the meantime I tried to do some research online but I haven't found any single article or information about it. There's even not a single picture on google of another person having those bills or requesting informations.

I'm attaching a picture I took so you can have an idea and maybe help me find out what I should do, thanks

that year plus the scar on Jefferson's forehead makes me think it's a fake

The scar is just on one bill, the other one doesn't have it, so I think it's just a mark.

I took both bills to the bank and they compared them with a 1976 and 1995 series bills and they found no difference

if the bank missed the different Series years they may have missed other differences

if the serial number is covered, that's another indication of fake

I see no color threads within the paper, another indication

if those are instead photo issues, we need better images

Here's a picture I just took showing both, as you can notice the scar is only on one bill and I think it's just a mark.

I actually covered the serial number on purpose.

Well, since I got them at a bank I would hope and expect them not to be fake, also because like I mentioned I specifically requested to compare them with a 1976 and a 1995 2 dollar bill and they told me all were good.

For god's sake, there is no such thing as a Series 1935 $2 Federal Reserve Note. This bears the signatures of a Series 1976 note.

Alex, can you post full pictures of both the obverse and reverse of one of these?

a curious thing is if someone fakes a Series 1976 note, why change the year?

I see no obvious defects on the reverse, at least judging by the low resolution photos

other than the 1935, the main problem seems to be a lack of color threads that are in genuine paper
