I believe this lovely Buffalo nickel might be a specimen of 1935 5¢ WDDO-001 / VDDO-001. I did my best to educate myself on two prior Tropicalbats threads before hunting this variety, as well as the Wexler and Variety Vista entries.

I find these doubled dies more difficult to identify than the super strong 1936 obverse dies. The bottom of the thick letters slopes away, and the top of the thickness also slopes away. The E definitely has that twisted elf shoe quality shown on certain Wheat cent doubled dies. To my eye, the bottom of 1935 also has a very blocky thickness, although I know that Die Deterioration will also produce a flat thickness in the date. From the Wexler markers, I did not find a scratch in the bow, but I can't even find it in the catalog entry or in either of TB's coins. I do think that the scratches in STA look very similar. The gouges along the rim also look quite similar, but honestly, gouges inside the rim are extremely common on Buffalo nickels.

Thanks, guys. =)

It's an attractive coin, might be the nicest Buffalo nickel in my collection.
