Does this coin have a chance for an MS certification? Thanks for your input.

Yep, in my opinion. I would go with MS-63 judging from the detail on the hair/crown on the obverse and the eagle breast feathers on the reverse.

Nice!

Hello Tomcufcik,
The images are too small for me to be certain, but I think your coin is a "slider" AU. There seems to be a trace of wear on Liberty's cheek and chin which would likely limit the coin to an AU-58 maximum grade. If however the luster is actually unbroken and I'm just imagining the wear, the coin might earn an MS-63 based on the minimal surface marks.

I'd be interested in seeing larger photos for which you use a single point-source light, like a halogen desk lamp. Such lighting helps show the luster and could confirm the AU vs. Mint State status.

Based on what I can see from your images, I would grade this coin at MS-62. Very nice.

Thanks guys I appreciate your input. Grading coins is still something I need to master although I new this was a good one when I got it.

Jaobler,
Not sure how to upload a larger image. Not my specialty. I'm using a Cannon Powershot SX120. I'll change some settings and the light source and see what I can do. If so I will re-upload.

Much better, if not for the several marks on Liberty's face this coin has a shot at MS-65. Based on the better pictures I'd chance my first grade to MS-64. Very nice coin.

I would say a conservative MS63. I think the lighting artifacts from your first pic is what made Jaobler come to his conclusion. The new pics are much better, and I don't think what looked like wear in the first set is evident in this new set. The cotton bolls and the chest feathers look to have a decent amount of detail.

The new photos show plenty of luster so I'll agree this is likely a mint state coin. However, there is that troublesome patch of what look like hairline scratches and scuffs right in front of Miss Liberty's lower face. This is a "prime focal area" and I expect this will significantly limit the grade. Unless this is just a photo effect I can't see this coin grading above MS-62.

Just my opinion, but based on the relatively low value of an 1882-O in grades up to MS-64 I would not invest a grading fee.
