This is a 1871-cc half that I found. The only cc date I found.

That is a $5,000 coin. Where did you find it? Without authentication, I believe you may have a copy. The color does not look good.

This coin is a rarity in that condition.

Edit: PS - I checked Numismedia.com and they list that coin at $10,560 in AU58!

I would definitely have to look at that thing closely. When you say "found" what exactly do you mean? This date is very very scarce and as you have already been told above is worth quite a bit of money which would make it very profitable to create a counterfeit of this date/mm. If I couldn't tell if it was fake myself I would try and get good pictures of Obverse and reverse and post them here and if I still wasn't sure it was real (heck even if I was sure it was real)I would send it in for authentication because its definitely a coin that would be worth the grading fee if real and worth the gamble to see if clear pictures didn't throw up any red flags

Take it out of the 2x2 and carefully place it on a digital scale. If the weight is between 12.3g and 12.5g I would definitely get it in plastic. Nothing glares at me indicating counterfeit from the photo. I would not call it AU58 (it appears to have been cleaned) but that date/mm garners a lot of leeway from TPG's.

p.s. - If your next post is an 1878-S ...

more pictures please! It appears to be a cast copy or was cleaned with harsh chemicals. I would need to see better pictures with better lighting for me to make a definite judgment. Is that 12.5 g weight with or without the packaging? Something just makes me feel different about. I hope, pray and would love to see it be real! Let's everyone pulled for this to be the real deal.

That coin is in great shape to have been found in the ground.

While maybe not AU58, it should go AU50 from what I can see. Who put the AU58 grade on it?
