I will be the first to admit, as I kick my own ARSE that When I was younger in the 60's I collected a good many of nice washington only to trade them off to my friends who like them more than I did at the time..I know too that the lighting, I'm still working on in photo's is much to be desired, I took some tonight and there gold looking even thought the coins are toned.....However.. despite the coins luster shown I think the flow lines of the strike speak for a lot of what the coin exibit's....the die is obviously older in production...I can only compare the examples of this to other coins...And I doubt not your insight to luster, I only give my thoughts of why the general overall appearance which is die degraded in my thoughts. not my opinion of luster Which I would have keep all my Washington quarters!

If you can't get the artificial lighting right try using just natural outdoor light.
