There are numerous reasons for cracking out a coin. "Crackin" for a higher grade on a rare coin is one. 1 grade difference can mean a lot of money on some coins (not any Kennedy that I know of)

Wrap it in a towel and hit the edge of the slab with a hammer till the seam cracks.. 1 or 2 good blows should do it.
