Hey,

I need help identifying this coin. Any information will help (country, face value, mint date, etc.).

It feels strangly light (almost like aluminum). I would weigh it, but I don't have a scale accurate to one tenth a gram. It's approx. 20 mm across.

Thanks!

Answered my own question. It is a 1 Yen coin from Japan. Still no idea on the mint date though :/

Edit: I think it may be a 1981 coin... can anyone confirm?

Perfect, I didn't see your post, and that's what I got too. So, it must be right.

Thanks for the confirmation!

I don't think so. Based on the link above, the date is read left to right.

The first two symbols mean "Hirohito (Showa), 1926-1989, years 1-64".

The next two symbols mean "5 x 10".

And the next symbol means "5"

The last symbol means "year".

So really, it's read: 1926+5x10+5year.

Which turns out to be "1981 Year".

1980 is correct.

1926+5x10+5 -1

1926=year 1
