Removing Mint Set Coins - Coin Community Forum

blcoinnut Valued Member United States 189 Posts	Posted 12/23/2007 07:58 am Can someone please tell me how to remove the coins from the 2007 mint sets to put them in Danco albums. The thought of running an Exacto knife around the diameter makes me freak. There must be a better way, how are all of you removing them? Report this Post to the Staff

Metalman Pillar of the Community United States 7123 Posts	Posted 12/23/2007 10:51 am Is it a mint set or a proof set ? for the encased proofsets ,,I usually just start a knife blade at one corner and then pry up a little ,,they are not secured all that hard . I'm looking at the set now and scratching my head trying to come up with a better idea. An Exacto knife seems like the best idea, as long as you have a steady hand. Report this Post to the Staff
TheForce Pillar of the Community United States 4870 Posts	Posted 12/23/2007 12:38 pm I think I am gonna do what Metalman does and just get rolls to get my uncirculated coins. Many times I have seen nicer coins from rolls than mint sets at times. But then I will have to go to a new bank to get new rolls since my credit union doesn't have them. InfiniteInterest Pillar of the Community United States 673 Posts	Posted 12/23/2007 7:54 pm The mint sets since 2004 have a "satin" finish , I would not consider these a business strike to add to my collection .Do the albums have slots for the satin mint set coins ? The only way to get your business strikes now is through circulation, except for dollars and halves which the mint sells ...oh yeah ..and you can get business strike quarters from the mint until the State Quarter series ends. As for getting them out...I pulled on one corner of the set near the fold and it seems like the two pieces of plastic will separate if you yank hard enough - so do it over something soft !
