Strange Bronze Coin Augustus - J. Caesar

Dutchgulden Pillar of the Community Netherlands 1204 Posts	Posted 03/19/2015 4:36 pm I bought this bronze coin 2 days ago. It seems to be quite a rare bronze coin of Augustus with Julius Caesar from Thessalonica. On the obverse there seems to be the case of a mis struck/damaged dies.. Its as thick as the portrait of Augustus itself.. I have never seen it before. Does anyone recognise this kind of mis struck/dies (if it is!) Definitly not a bankers mark.. Thanks! Something major must have happened on a previous strike that damaged that one die. Almost looks like a nail, laying sideways, got stuck onto one side of a planchet, then got hammered, creating a gouge on the one die. That would result in a raised area on the subsequent strikes.
