Die Crack 2016 Star Trek Gold Delta

Relic Valued Member Canada 116 Posts	Posted 09/23/2016 11:32 pm Just found a Die Crack in a Gold Delta! At first I thought it was a scratch but on a closer look it is not a scratch. Crack goes from the edge above the 2nd A in Canada through the D and the last A then down to the shield and then up through the 2 to the edge. Anybody else see anything on their coin? In a couple pics you can see the secondary flow of the gold on top of the other side of the crack. The 3 microscope pictures of the crack going down from the A, up to the 2, and through the 2 actually have shadows. Use the links for bigger images. Report this Post to the Staff

Post mint damage was my first thought but after magnifying and confirming the marks were not scratched into the coin my opinion changed. Scratches to the die are a possibility but the very unique path of the lines make that a long shot, and point more to a die crack. Report this Post to the Staff
okiecoiner Pillar of the Community Canada 5635 Posts	Posted 09/24/2016 3:25 pm Die cracks don't usually follow such a linear line .. they go to the distinct minute weaknesses in the metal. But they originate from a stress point on the die .. a sharp pointed turn, serifs, leaf tips, etc. Yours rae very straight and non-wavering with some going over the design itself. You almost have to see it in hand as a computer screen leaves lots to be desired. Report this Post to the Staff
