I am starting a small collection, mainly best quality decimal pieces pulled out of circulation and I noticed that this coin has a "dent" under the D, is it an error or damage.
Some coins have a soft strike (possibly struck thru oil) on the girl's hair and Bow has a soft strike. There is a difference the left lapel pin and shirt of the soldier also. It looks like the girl has on a helmet or a swimming cap. LOL.
I bought 20 of the coming home coins when first released. I examined these closely and 8 have these have the soft strike features and 12 have the normal strike features. I would say that, 40% soft strike, would have to be considered a variety, although this is of a small sample from a bag of 500 coins. There seems to me to be a large number of each variety around. So keep your eyes pealed for the two different types.
There is also reported die cracks and ripples on these coins. For some reason the Dies did not last very well.
