the original photo lighting was hiding many of those scratches. I have to add a details designation for what appears to be a cleaning and that fairly significant scratch. I agree with your strike assessment but if I was expecting a straight grade coin and got this I would have to send it back.

The obverse scratch (behind the head and left arm) and the reverse gouge (directly below the second "A" of AMERICA) look deep and fairly recent. I wonder if these are scratches from staples?

This is a cleaned coin. The hairlines stop short of the devices meaning they are not die polishing marks. Having said that, it's a nice AU details.
