Not Qualified To Diagnose This 1982-D Penny!

vikingsword7 New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 03/08/2021 8:22 pm In my penny roll searching I came across this 1982d small date with an enormous amount of blistering, but also some other anomalies, such as the odd formation in the B in Liberty, and on the reverse the s's and t's in the word states. I haven't coin hunted in almost fifty years so I'm just now discovering all the changes that have taken place in metallurgy and design. Anyway, I was wondering if the experienced could help me understand what I have here, many thanks in advance. Report this Post to the Staff

Spence Moderator United States 34462 Posts	Posted 03/08/2021 8:25 pm If you can flatten them with the tip of a wooden toothpick, then they are plating blisters (looks like a couple ruptured in the letter B of LIBERTY). If not, then it might be zinc dust under the copper plating. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 03/08/2021 8:29 pm Small date Denver zinc cent. The acne look is from the zinc dust, getting plated onto the coin. Not a premium for this. It was a plague for several years, until the realized the issue. Still shows up now and again, but not as bad as it was at first. Report this Post to the Staff
