Diy89Nurm7 Valued Member United States 271 Posts	Posted 02/15/2021 11:08 pm Funky coin! A healthy GW 25c in 1984 should be "75% Copper, 25% Nickel over a pure Copper center" per PCGS. Looks like environmental damage. If you have a scale, a 1984-D in mint shape should weigh 5.67 grams on average, but severe damage can change that number a bit. With a pure copper center, perhaps the nickel is largely gone. That's my best guess, but others here know a lot more about these things. Stay well, Diy89Nurm7 Report this Post to the Staff

If it were all copper, then why is lighting in color. It would all be the same red color, not lighter darker on the highest spots on the devices. Just a color residue on the surface of the coin. Wipe harder and it will show the gray even more coming through. This wouldn't happen on the copper inner core of a clad. Report this Post to the Staff
