awlgone2000 New Member United States 10 Posts	Posted 04/07/2009 12:50 pm I had posted earlier with info on a Half Dime that I found metal detecting. I was advised by a couple of folks to have the dime sent to ANACS to have it graded due to a small gouge on the back of the Half Dime. One guy also said to have it cleaned, but I have read many times not to have it cleaned. Is there certain cleaning that is acceptable? Should I have it cleaned, then graded? Thanks for any info. biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 04/07/2009 1:53 pm That is easily a $500+ coin but since it was a metal detector find, there may be room for improvement in regards to the surfaces. I would recommend sending it to NCS for conservation. If the coin is deemed acceptable after conservation, then NGC can grade it. If it is deemed to have problems after the conservation(the reverse gouge, possible corrosion), then NCS would slab it and assign a details grade.
