1877 Seated dime, with severe black toning.     I really like this coin, but I could see some not liking it due to the uneven and splotchy toning. Opinions? |

Have you tried an acetone dip? I would not suggest any other type of "cleaner", as even a darkly toned coin is more attractive than a cleaned one to me.

I did an acetone dip, I don't want to do any other type of cleaning. Pics don't do the coin justice. Really think the black will "details" the coin? I'd think a 145 Year old silver coin would supposed to be near black from toning?

Seriously impaired, possibly a ground find, may even have been in a fire. Worth much less than an original VF coin.
If you want to upgrade it shouldn't be too hard to find a more appealing example.

It's a very common issue for the series, and in this condition would have little appeal to either a date or type coin collector, sorry to say.  Edited by Coinfrog

then this coin will get a "dip" if its just a silver junker. I'll post what she looks like after :)

Leave it alone. Dipping will surely remove whatever collector value it has. It's a piece of history. Some beginner would love this coin!

The acetone is all that will actually help and no Seated silver piece like this one is a total "junker". |

This coin is pretty fried, I don't see how anyone finds this appealing, it's damaged.
