Off course, we all love to find silver in our rolls and plenty of folks save copper and varieties as well.
I'm curious to hear what else you all save when going through rolls if anything at all. I have been pulling out the US territory quarters due to their low mintages as well as the national park quarters from 2010-2012 (Minus Denali) for the same reason. They likely won't be worth anything more than face value for the next 50 years, but I do it anyway.

Aside from silver and wheat cents, I hang onto any piece having notable features like prominent die chips, die cracks, lamination, and woody characteristics; documented errors; toning; extreme Grease Filled Die issues; and peculiar/visually striking damage. BU 2005 'waters' nickels, territory quarters, and W mint quarters are targets as well. |

Me personally when I search rolls of Cents, I save any varieties, errors, Wheat Cents, foreign coins and sometimes high grade coins.
Errers and Varietys.

Nickels, I save: War Nickels, obviously. Pre-1960 nickels into two jars, in case some kid wants to fill albums someday. 2009 nickels, due to low mintages. BU 2024 and 2025 nickels, plus the new 1776-2026 nickels in BU condition. Interesting toners. I check all tossers (1960-2005) for die clashes. All 1960-1972 nickels with D or D mint marks get checked for RPM. 2006-2025 get checked for DDR. 2005-D bison for speared bison. 2004-P peace medal for DDO. Very nice specimens will go into decade rolls or a backup roll for album fillers. I was really happy to send some of those to CCF folks this summer. =) |

I have yet to get into varieties, I lurk in those forums to try to learn them all and how to distinguish from PMD. Maybe one of these days I will find a particularly striking one that will finally pique my interest and get me to invest in a proper microscope for it. I sincerely hope I would be able to put together a whole set of the W quarters from circulation, but I seriously doubt that will happen. I've found 5 thus far and I'm shocked I've found that many. |

Pennies, pulling Copper, looking for some Wide AM's and right now pulling any 2025's I come across just to hang on to for a while until a complete error list comes out. Nickles, Silver, key dates, good behives, 2009's 2024's 2025's waiting for a good error list. Currently going through a $200 bag. Found 5 silver to date, several 2009's and 2024's and these two. Never found an actual proof coin in change.      |

Webster -- IJN, how many notable errors would you say you find in any given box of cents or other denomination that you search? In my experience spanning many decades of roll searching, 'notable' errors and varieties are quire scarce. Most significant variety find was a Bicentennial quarter DDO--1776-1976 D, FS-101...pulled from a customer wrapped roll several years ago. For a few years back then, I was going through ~50 quarter rolls monthly. Before and after, I averaged ~15 rolls monthly. For Lincoln cents, I've pulled a couple dozen documented, clearly visible Wheat cent PRMs over the same period--maybe finding one for every five to six wheat bags searched (5000 pieces per bag).

Back in my peak days of box hunting, I've found many several major and minor errors, along with major and minor varieties. Although finding a major error coin is rare. It took lots of rolls and many boxes of cents I've look through to find them. I've found a 1994 LMC Major Rotated Die error, Cuds, Clipped Planchets, Struck Through errors, etc. Errers and Varietys.

Philot - I have gotten suprisingly lucky finding proofs in circulation. I have found 4 proof quarters over the years searching less than $100 dollars of coins at a time. I've found 1986, 1987, Indiana and West Virginia. Always love to see the shine of a proof fall out of a roll.
Love hearing from all you guys. Thanks for all the resources that have been linked. As a full time student at the moment finding time for hobbies is hard, but I love learning as much as possible from everyone on CCF.
