In 1986 the U. S. government started their American Eagle program to sell gold and silver bullion coins.

The silver version is referred to as a ASE for American Silver Eagle.

The Obverse has the same Lady Liberty as the Walking Liberty half dollar (1916- 1947).

The 1987 silver Eagle is considered common date and has no extra value over other ASE's.

Because it has 1 oz. of silver it buys and sells for a little over the value of silver.
