I have no idea what this coin is. I don't even know if I have the picture right side up. Only half the coin seems to have been struck so I don't know if it's part of the design of if it's an off-strike. It's about 16.5mm. It doesn't look like any coin I've seen before, so any help would be great.
I got this as part of a lot with some late imperial roman coins, if that's any help. I'm beginning to think that someone attempted to melt this down as some point.
It doesn't look Roman to me. Celtic is as good of a guess as any. Actually, I may be just trying to see something, but it appears to me that there may be a Crusader's shield on the right-hand image. Of course, I'm trying to see something. Anything identifiable. Good luck with this one.
At first I thought this might be Islamic or something like that, but that's probably not right. Well, thanks everyone anyway. Sometimes there's just not enough to go on.
Wow ancientcoinguy! I think you're right. Just a quick search on ebay for Ottoman coins turns up literally hundreds of examples that look similar to the one I have. Right down to the characteristic dotting and flattened halves. This is just one example: Of course, I haven't found the exact coin I have (with the dot in the middle of the dotted V triangle thing) but I'm surely on the right path now. I guess my original hunch of this being Islamic was not far off. Anyone agree or object to this being Ottoman?
