What To Do With " Not So Common Wheat Cents Bags"

hogskins2win Valued Member United States 99 Posts	Posted 11/10/2011 9:04 pm A few years ago I purchased 12 Wheat cent bags for 215.00 bucks each. I was just holding onto them for the copper value. Copper isn't doing much so I decided to open a few and search them. Wow was I surprised to find a great mix of coins. I searched 5 bags thus far and these are not common wheats. One bag was solid steel cents but 50% were rusted. However the other bags are averaging 20% or greater pre-1940! I have found some good samples, several 22-D, 31-D, 33-D, and broadstruck (mostly 57-D) samples. Additionally, I found a 10-S, 11-S and a(strong) XF 31-S. I'm growing weary of searching. I'm leaning towards selling a few unopened bags on E-bay (before I go cross eyed searching). What would you do, search the remaining bags and recycle them to e-bay (with the average 5-6 pre-40 salt) or sell the remaining bags as premium bags on e-bay. If I do sell a few unopened bags what would be a fair asking price? Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated. Report this Post to the Staff

hogskins2win Valued Member United States 99 Posts	Posted 11/10/2011 11:22 pm This is what I'm thinking. For now, I will not open the other bags. I'm burned out from searching and sorting. I believe the bags were searched at some point due to disproportionate amount of teen cents, less than 5% teens. Somewhere most teens were pulled, I wouldn't ever list these as unsearched wheat cents. Truly unsearched Wheat cent bags don't exist. That's such an overused and abused term! I will hold the unopened bags, sell the common wheat cents as bulk lots and sell the nicer examples individually. But I'm keeping the 31-S. I will attempt to load a picture of the 31-S. hogskins2win Valued Member United States 99 Posts	Posted 11/11/2011 12:35 am If you're bidding on E-bay the average bag has about 5-6% pre-1940. But you might get lucky and land a truly non-recycled bag of common wheats. Report this Post to the Staff
