Look between the back of the neck and the hair hanging down from knot of hair. There is extra bumps there I have 2 examples of this. Has anyone else seen this

Very interesting. Are they both portrait I varieties? I'd like to see the other one too. I just looked through about 50 20 cent pieces I had and I couldn't find it on any of mine :(

Gah! I feel silly now. I totally know all about this variety and had completely forgotten about it. In fact I own this variety in AU, it's the scarcest of the 1894 varieties so hold onto it! Also you'll note when you get the higher grade it has a re-engraved 8,9, and S.

Fredor, 1873 and 1888 50 cents would be good to start with...
