Yeah I agree, "impaired Proofs" have little value, because they need to be in near pristine condition, not "circulated" to be included in collections requiring such quality coins.

However....I avidly collect them when I find them. I store them in tubes or 2x2's. I consider them to be in a sort of "grey area" of my collection.
It will always be considered "a find" for me when I discover one.

The fact that there's little "value" in them, doesn't matter.
I save EVERY SINGLE common date Wheat cent that I find too...they're worth ....what ?..... .02 to .03 Cents apiece.
Or nice BU LMC's that I come across....those are only face value...but they're set aside by me too.
Why would I throw a Proof back, just because of it's lowered value ? ....
Even at face value, it's still "a find".

I just save them and stick them in a 2x2.

That is what I do with them also. Even if circulated, they are still a Proof.

I absolutely love finding proofs in circulation and come across the most proof dimes
I have even found 2 silver proof dimes 62 and 57
I get as excited over finding proofs as I do when I find silver.
Some proofs I have found are pretty uncirculated still

I have only ever found one; and more accurately, it was my wife that found it. A 1999 Delaware Clad Proof. It is in a 2x2 in one of my miscellaneous Dansco albums. I have no plans to sell or otherwise get rid of it.

Spend them, give someone else the joy of discovering an oddity.

I find a few (Australian) 50¢ proofs when noodling (much less frequently 20¢) and, also, mint set years only.
I keep them but if I have more than two of any, retain the best and list the leftover on ebay. For example http://www.ebay.com/itm/250890524884. They often fetch a good price, go to a good home and help finance me to purchase some other coins.

If any forum member is interested I could offer them here first -sell or swap- but I don't have any spare at present.

I sell them on ebay. I just list them as is. You would be surprised what people will bid on a 7 day auction. Being that they are usually found at face value, they tend to do ok in lots listed as "impaired" of course.

I really don't need the proofs I find in circulation but again I don't need the wheat cents ether, but as a collector or "hoarder" as someone else had mentioned they go into the stash. I have found all modern denominations except I have never found a proof cent.

I love proofs. I've never found any in circulation, but I have picked up a few proof Kennedy halves and Ikes when purchasing them in lots of 20 or more. I keep every single one. They may not technically be rare or valuable, but I see them so infrequently and you can't just go to the bank and request a proof Kennedy or Ike, so they're special to me.

Excellent replies, all. I enjoyed seeing the various feeling about finding these proofs in the wild. :P I'm going to stick mine in some 2 x 2's and see if in a few years my nephew is interested. Like many said, they would make a great addition to a young collector's collection.
