Here's one of my favorite Patriotic CWT's, a 511/516 brass, acquired at the FUN Show this year. This "Wealth of the South" token is one of a few pieces, dated 1860, that's been included in the CWT series. Produced in the North, it's thought to have been issued to promote southern candidates in the 1860 election. My pics don't do this piece justice. About half of the zinc or silver "wash" remains. Whereas the fields are brassy, the devices are stunningly highlighted by the "wash" that remains intact. Interestingly and ironically, obverse die breaks at 6 and 12 o'clock seemingly threaten to divide the token in half!

Pleasant surprise in a lot of junk box priced world coins. It's been through the wars -- but then, that is appropriate.

It never ceases to amaze me how CWT's are found among foreign coins. Good pickup there, Arkie. Coincidently, I picked up the same token, a 47/332, but a later die state at the FUN show. In addition to the larger Cud, there are advanced die breaks on the obverse. The reverse die is similarly deteriorated ....

Looks like a hand is reaching out to grab the head of liberty.

Yes, it does, Arkie. It's possible to assemble a progression of this die break in various stages. I've yet to see an example of this variety that had no indication of the break at all.

@DaveH: Very nice new token! I just purchased my first token in quite some time a couple days ago. I'll post pics once I have it in hand and get a chance to photograph it.

Cool overstrike there, Dave H. While I've owned a few of these Wood tokens over the years, they were clearly struck atop common patriotics. Yours has a greater wow factor, being that it's atop a scarce storecard. Here's a relatively common NY CWT, along with a pic of the steamship it represented ...

DSfreeworld ... This is a great starter piece for a collection. Although a relatively common variety, this one is growing in popularity among collectors. Some regard SPOOT as an error, but I think it was intentional. IMHO. this diesinker's work is otherwise too good to suggest he'd make such a gross error. Among the so-called primitives, there are many spelling errors.
