. Die 442 (New York) is supposedly only paired w/ either die 110 (Washington facing right) or die 22 (French Liberty Head). The indian head looks like die 81... That would mean that the dies came from 2 different die makers (Glaubrecht & Scovill). Very interesting.

dd27 ... Looks to be Fuld # 82/442 which are common dies. These common CWT's in average condition are running between $!5-$20 at present. Nice pick-up, amongst the Wheaties! Die sinkers, particularly those in NY City, often shared their dies. In this pairing, it was Roloff (#82) and Glaubrecht (#442). Quote: Die 442 (New York) is supposedly only paired w/ either die 110 (Washington facing right) or die 22 (French Liberty Head). Not so ... One easy method of pairing more familiar reverse dies is to use the "Moore Reverse Listings." Moore simply compiled a "backwards" listing of all the Fuld listings, making it easier for collectors to view die pairings. Here's some helpful info on CWT dies and die sinkers ... http://coinhelp.net/civil-war-token...die-sinkers/

Pretty toner there, Dave! It'd be neat to find one of McBurney's cigar boxes in which to house this prize token.

DaveH ... I heard back from one of my CWT buddies on your Brumter piece. He has the newer book, Ostendorf, that I don't have. You didn't say what book you were consulting when you said that your piece with an 1179 reverse was an R-10. My friend confirmed to me that it is listed as such in the new book, being OH 975 C-5a.
Since there are now at least two pieces (including yours and the misattributed Heritage token), it appears that the next book should rate this variety as an R-9, unless addidional specimens surface.
I'm still awaiting word that the OH975 C-3a variety with an 1178 reverse exists. I'm not saying it doesn't exist. It simply strikes me as odd that I'm unable to find any sales of this allegedly R-5 token.
Update ... Just heard back from another, reliable source on CWT's. He assures me that the 3a variety does exist, as he's seen maybe ten of them over the years. As I never much focused on Ohio CWT's, I'm not as familiar with merchant issues from this state.

That's a sharp strike, Pauliswilling. To me, die rotation means nothing as it was such a common phenomenon. I've long appreciated that reverse die though which was used on many CWT's and long wondered if Weinman was inspired by that die when he designed his so-called "Mercury" dime.

Dave H. Congrats on your find. The. CWTS did an outstanding job on the 3'd edition store card book. A few errata have been released but a quick check with John Ostendorf usually clears up any issues.
Again, congrats on a great find.

Thanks, Bill. I agree they did a GREAT job w/ the book. Here's one I picked up this week. Love the beautiful toning, and the clipped planchet

It's been a long dry spell for me on CWT's. Finally found one to add to my Michigan towns/cities collection. This is from a single merchant town and is available in Copper (R-9) variety and this Brass (R-7) piece. Had my choice of either variety and opted for the R-7 due to price. Three more to go to complete this collection.
