I spent $3.00 in halves today on a hot chocolate at a coffee shop. The cashier says he collects them, so I'd imagine he might fill some holes in his collection if he hasn't started already.

I also spent an SBA to help pay for a Subway lunch. This makes a total of $4.00 in coins.

$45,827 to go.

My wife told me that sometimes people come into her store and spend lots of dollar coins and they count them out 1 by 1. She says she just takes them to the bank on her next trip.

I said, "why don't you just give them out as change to other customers"? Her response is "Nobody wants them".

That just makes me want to try harder.

i suspect that many of the places we spent these at are doing just that. But even then the bank is seeing them come in and seeing them used in circulation. Either way we are getting exposure for the coins and maybe winning some converts along the way.

I'm pretty excited to join in on this project! This weekend a customer at work paid for his order in all small dollar coins that I happily swapped out for paper money and took on home. It inspired me to start putting them and half dollars into circulation! Today I spent:

  • $9.00 in JFK's at Walmart

  • $7.00 in JFK's for lunch

  • $1.00 in JFK's for a ferry ticket

----------------------
Total: $17.00 in JFK's (34 coins total)
$45,775.50 left to go!

Used 1 half dollar along with some $2's to pay the Toyota parts driver for my $60 lower control arm camber adjustment bolts since I had to cut the old ones out.

It's almost road worthy so I can spend halves and dollar coins on gas and not tools and parts

Spent $4 in halves at McDonalds for lunch.

$45,771 to go.

I saw a dollar coin and a half dollar in a register once at Walmart, and the cashier REFUSED to give them to me as part of change because "that is not store policy to use them." What kind of store gives people what they want instead of making them take what they get these days?

$50 halves: gas

$45,721 to go.
