$6.50 in Half Dollars at Zaxby's for lunch $2.50 in Half Dollars at Dunkin Donuts for an iced coffee
The cashiers seemed awed by the coins. Like they never saw Half Dollars before. One even mentioned that she was going to ask her manager if she could buy one from the register. Are they really that rare in circulation these days?

Just something to throw out, Notre Dame hockey games give your change back in half dollars. First time I have seen anyone do that.

gbpnym4512, I have never gotten a half dollar in change. Closest was the vending machine at post office or transit station giving golden dollars in change.

@Fuzzy317: Yeah, I guess Indiana is a hotspot for halves and dollars. A year ago we got 16 dollars in gold coins after paying with a twenty for tolls. Spent them all at a baseball game. If that counts it make the total...

It always amazes me when an older cashier who would have been around when halves and Ikes and SBA were originally issued and circulated freely have no idea about them. But then again it never surprises me when someone who was old enough in the late 1960's / 1970's to know and doesn't know what a mechanical watch is and assumes watches always run on batteries.
